In Libya there was a problem to get fresh water. The name of the project to get the water is the” Great Man-Made River” project. The Libyans decided to get water by constructing a network of pipelines to transport water at Brega and Muammar Al Qadhfi began the project which started in 1984. In 1993 phase 1 began which is water from eastern wells reached Benghazi. In 1996 phase 2 was completed which was bringing water to Tripoli from western wells at Jabal Hassouna .Phase 3 is to link the first two phases and it was still under construction in 2006. The project was successful because Adam Kuwairi a senior figure said that finding water is easier but in the future no one is sure how long the water will last. The article was written by John Watson.
Main Idea
The main idea of the article is to bring fresh water and supply Libyan cities and villages by water from the middle of the desert without depending on sea water.
Opinion
In my point of view it's a big step for a desert country like Libya and it was a huge project for a country like Libya and gave it a good opportunity for it's economy and its a good idea for a desert country which has fresh water in its desert.
